See what we have to offer
2008 saw the introduction of ’The Early Years Foundation Stage’ (EYFS). As with all providers of early years care and learning, we are required to use the EYFS to ensure that at our parents can be confident that their child will receive a quality experience that supports their development and learning.
As we share the same environment as the main Primary School, children experience from an early age some of the aspects of school life. Many of the children start to develop friendships with older children, and look forward to seeing each other every morning.
However, once school has started we occupy our own dedicated space. Our classroom is bright and welcoming and our exciting outdoor play area is available to the children throughout the day. We have our own child-friendly toilets, cloakroom and kitchen areas.
Young children are more engaged and learn best when involved in something that really interests and is truly relevant to them. In line with current Early Years thinking, we have moved away from topic based themes and instead our planning is based fully on the children’s interests. Each week we observe and note what the children are enjoying and are interested in and we use this information to plan activities for the following week. Our parents assist us with this by letting us know their child’s interests and any events or activities that they are enjoying at home.
In addition to planned adult led activities there are many other potential learning opportunities for children to enjoy each day. These include:-
Role play
Sand
Water
Writing and drawing area
Creative area
Quiet reading area
Computer activities
Construction
Small world toys
Outdoor play
Our outdoor play area offers a number of activities where the children can stretch their legs, enjoy the fresh air, and perhaps make a little more mess and noise than they are usually allowed to make!
In addition to these regular activities, we occasionally take the children out of the pre- school environment to explore the local area. Popular destinations on our "wellie walks" are Woolmer Green's duck pond, and Mardley Heath - a large wooded area offering plenty of flowers and wildlife to investigate.
There are also trips to local theatres and other attractions where parents are encouraged to join us. Each year at Christmas time, the children look forward to putting on their Nativity play for family and friends. Make sure you check out the previous year's Nativity videos on the News & Events pages.
During the year the Pre-school also takes part in a number of school and community related fundraising events. These range from School and Village Fetes where we try to offer activities that the children can enjoy, to evening social events where the parents have the opportunity to enjoy themselves and meet other parents. Our annual Ladies Night is not to be missed.
