9.00-9.30 Welcome.Parents, carers and children arrive and are welcomed by a member of staff at the door. Children remove outer clothing and settle to an activity before saying goodbye to parents and carers. Children are free to choose from a wide variety of play and learning opportunities and activities supported by staff.  Below is an explanation of play and learning opportunities.
9.30–9.40(max) Carpet time.Led by one member of staff to introduce the topic and activities for the morning. Children are invited to participate in a short ‘Letters and Sounds’ activity or ‘Circle Time’ discussion.
9.40-11.40 Child–initiated learning (C.I.L.).This is a long period of unbroken play during which there is free flow between the indoor and outdoor areas for C.I.L. Children are free to choose from a wide variety of opportunities and activities supported by members of staff. During this period a staff member will lead a planned small group activity. Children are invited to take part in this activity in groups of about 3 or four children. A rolling snack bar, supported by a staff member, is open for 1 hour during this period. Children bring a healthy snack from home and we provide milk or water to drink.
11.45-11.55 Story time.Children gather together for a story linked to our theme for the week. This group time also includes a short ‘Maths’ activity to support the children’s understanding of number, space, shape and measure.
11.55-1200 Home, welcome and transition time.Children staying for lunch are settled with a book and remain sitting on the carpet. Children going home are taken outside (weather permitting) to play whilst waiting for parents and carers to collect. This is supported by two members of staff. Children may also be arriving at this time and are welcomed into the setting to be settled by parents.
12.00- 1.00 Lunch Children sit in friendship groups to eat their packed lunch supported by staff members.  Children return to C.I.L. as above once they have eaten their lunch.
1.00– 1.20 Home, welcome and transition time.Children that are staying for the afternoon continue with unbroken C.I.L.   Children going home are taken outside (weather permitting) to play whilst waiting for parents and carers to collect. This is supported by two members of staff. Children may also be arriving at this time and are welcomed into the setting to be settled by parents. These children join the existing group for C.I.L.
